Gemma

Gemma a 5 year old black and white bitch has just been found a new home with Caroline, Simon and their three young children. Gemma is settling in well and is loving all the attention she is getting especially from the children.

Update

Gemma has been renamed Fraggle by her new family and we are told that they feel that she has been with them for years and has even stopped trying to eat the guinea pig and rabbit which just goes to prove that if homed responsibly greyhounds can learn to live with other pets. The family can’t believe how quickly she has settled in and is already house trained, she will even go to her bed if she’s asked.
Her family say that they will send some pictures for the web site soon.

Hello all
Just to give you another update on Fraggle. She really is a delight to have as a pet. She is fantastic with our 3 children and even stands still to be dressed up as a Princess by the girls. I think that really shows how fabulous these dogs are as pets.
I will try and get the photos to you by the end of the week.
She likes to go out for her evening walk (only if the weather is nice, she won’t step outside if its too cold even though she has a great big thick coat). She likes meeting other dogs of all shapes and sizes and has never shown any agression.
Her favourite place to crash out is on the sofa but also loves her Duvet especially if its been round the tumble dryer to warm it up a bit( not that shes spoilt much ).
I am working on Simon to let me get another one as I feel that now she has settled in well we could offer another Greyhound a loving home.

Captain

Captain a Black and White Dog who is 2 years and 9 months old has been homed this week and it is very satisfying to see our first dog find a good home as all too often people seem to overlook the dogs in favour of the bitches.

We wish Captain and his new owner all the best and hope they will keep in touch and let us know how they are both doing and perhaps send us some pictures of how he is settling in for the web site.

Update
Captain is doing really well and has managed to get things organised to his liking and is winning the affection of everyone he meets.
It appears that Captain is also a great hit with the members of the British Legion Club he visits.

Star

Star a black bitch who is 4 years and seven months old has been homed. We wish the family all the best and hope that they will keep in touch and let us know how things are going.

Update
Star is settleing in well to her home environment and loves her walks and food, the family say they would not be without her despite her waking them every morning at 5am!!

Hello,We adopted Star in May. we were glad to hear that 12 dogs have been rehoused since May.
Just to give you an update about Star, we have had no problems with her, she walks well on the lead, is housetrained, and loves her food and needless to say we would not be without her. We were concerned that her coat seemed to be coming out in handfuls and contacted kennel to be reassured that she was just shredding her winter coat which she has. The only other thing I can, t work out is that she likes to moan at 5 in the morning, after trying the following things i still don, t know why she is doing it :-
Leaving light on
Radio on
Leaving room door open
Getting up to let her out - Star had no intentions to go out.
Most mornings it can be an early start for me, any suggestions would be appreciated or is she just being a normal greyhound. PS have attached picture Star out for her walk.

Henry

Henry the 1 year 7 month old Brindle Dog who wouldn’t chase has been homed this week and again we wish them all the best and hope they have many happy years together. (Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.)

Update
Henry is settling into home life very well and is even managing to get on with Meg the cat as the picture shows.

Henry helps walk the children to school every day and they leave earlier so they can go via the woods which he enjoys.
Henry can be left for short periods now that the family have worked out a routine for him involving filling a Konk toy with treats to keep him amused while they are gone. He is always happy to see them come home and so far has done nothing naughty and has truly blossomed and is enjoying his retirement.

Hello again I thought that I would send you a photo of Henry camping in our lounge .As you can see he always makes sure he gets a share of the pillow!
He is very tolerant of the children and enjoys all the games they play with him and is always patient, I think he is going through a second puppy stage as he is very playful at the moment.
I cannot begin to tell you how much we all love him,he is a very special boy!
I have started to slowly change his food,as the Beta Greyhound one was too rich in protein,thank you for the advise.

Millie

Dear Bill
Happy New Year to you and all at RGT. Thanks for the card. Picking your brains for any help or suggestions for the following-

My brother and I along with our dogs are walking from Minehead to Poole on the South West Coast path. We are collecting money for ABC and I’m also doing RGT.
I am hoping Millie will stay the course. My thoughts are:
Will she need a higher protein food?
Would three smaller feeds be better?
Any special care for her feet?
Any thing else you can think of.

We are allowing ourselves two months and giving ourselves a day off walking each week.
The walk is 630 miles and we walk from about 8 miles to 20+ miles daily.

Millie is totally settled in and has brought a lot of laughter with her ways

Boysey has settled in well and follows his owner everywhere, he goes out for a walk 3 times a day and is happy in his retirement.

Cash

Cash our three and a half year old Fawn dog has been homed.
Cash will be greatly missed by our volunteer walker Alison as he was her favorite but we are all glad he has found a permanent loving home in which to see out his retirement and we wish his new family all the best and hope they have many happy years together.

Rosey

Rosey our 6 years and 2 month old white and fawn bitch has been homed.
During her brief stay with us Rosey had everybody eating out of her hand (paw) and we are glad that this pretty lady has found a new family so quickly to give her the attention and affection she was so desperately seeking and to see out her retirement, we wish them all well and look forward to receiving some updates from them.

Holly

Holly our 3 year old brindle bitch has found a new home.
Holly wasn’t with us for very long before finding a new home although she was very keen and retained her racing instincts, she walked well on the lead and is very good with children and other dogs.
We look forward to hearing about Holly and the enjoyment she will no doubt bring to her new family.

Pat / Paddy Our 5 year old Black Dog has found a new home.
He was very friendly, walked well on a lead and enjoyed a lot of fuss and will settle in nicely with his new family.

Sadly Paddy passed away on 17th April 2008 he will be sadly missed but not forgotton.

Boris Our 3 year old fawn dog has found a new home.
Boris has a friendly loving nature, he walks well on the lead but is very keen and strong but loves a lot of fuss. He was homed after our Ashford Event.

Henry Has been homed after a short stay in our kennels, he walks well on the lead and was very keen but loved all the fuss and attention which I’m sure his new found family will continue to give him..

Update 19/01/07

Hi
Just thought I would give you an update on ‘Ellie’ now that she has been homed. After some training she know walks our local fields off of the lead although she still wears her muzzle. She enjoys the opportunity to have a recreational run and to burn up a bit of energy!! She walks to school in the morning and afternoon to accompany my daughter to and from school and has become a bit of a celebrity at the school gates and she is doing some good PR work for the RGT and the re-homeing of greys. She has certainly settled well into home life and she has her routine which she likes and is happy with. She has settled her bed in the hallway so that where ever you go in the house she knows about it - she doesnt follow you everywhere but she likes to know where everybody is in the house.
Feel free to use any of the above as an update for the sofa and I have also attached a photo of Ellie in the garden at home.

Taz walks very well on the lead is friendly but can be over zealous and would suit a younger person.
She still retains her racing instinct and is very alert whilst walking.

Bonzo was being fostered but has now found a permanent home in which to have the retirement he deserves.

Hello to all
we collected ‘Rita’s Little Jo’('Sally’). on the eighth of December. Since our neighbour is called Sally, we thought it best to call our new arrival by another name. We decided to call her ‘Jo’ - plain and simple. She has settled in amazingly well, and it feels like she has been with us for ages, not just less than a month. She enjoys her walks, and most times will come bounding across the lounge at the sight or sound of her lead. She loves to ‘Veg out’ by the radiator, occasionally waking to play with the toy rabbit (photo) and the cat-shaped draught excluders. Her other favourite game is to roll over on her back until she gets her belly tickled. She has a sweet temperament and endears herself to everyone she meets. She has generated qiute a bit of interest amongst our friends and we think one or two might be in contact with a view to offering a home.
We’ll keep you posted on Jo’s progress.
